Be a rich and successful (yet emotionally damaged) South Korean lady and fly to North Korea (oops!) in a parachute, only to crash land on a random (handsome) soldier’s head, because this week on the show Lee Evie is discussing her feelings on the 2019 mega-hit kdrama CRASH LANDING ON YOU. This Korean drama stars Hyun-Bin and Son Ye-jin, and just the largest cast of absolute scene-stealing side characters Lee Evie has ever seen! From the second lead couple to the gaggle of idiotic soldier boys, through to the mother-in-law and the village ladies, this show’s side character’s were absolute gold! Also, the rest of the show is excellent too!

Hi LeeEvie!
Thanks for having this discussion on Crash Landing on You. I get what you mean with the feeling that everyone else has watched the drama except me, which kind of made me watch the series. I get to learn about Crash Landing on You and Captain Ri from a lot of people around me. It just simply became a household name here almost in a literal sense. It’s so popular, major brands here has Hyun Bin in major billboards wearing “Captain” tshirt — which is designed specially to relate to the series. Yes, I live in this k-drama crazy city of Manila.
Anyway, the hype is not that all bad since there are many delightful things about this drama. I agree with you on almost all the points that you raised–specially on the side characters. Almost all of them were active characters and they made the watch very much worth while. Although there were scenes in the final two episodes that in real life is really hard to imagine possible, plus the endings did not look like endings for me, I kind of overlooked them and remember the awesome and funny moments. It made my gift for my husband all the more cheaper as I just pulled out from my pocket one of those heart fingers or whatever you call them. hahahaha!
Probably the difference between you and me though is this perspective of Hyun Bin before watching the drama. Hugely because I never get to see My Name is Kim Sam Soon and the first drama I saw him in is Memories of the Alhambra, which he played as a CEO that tested and got hooked with the Augmented Reality game (not sure if you have a podcast on this but I love the series). Then, it was Crash Landing on You so it made Hyun Bin became like Nicholas Cage for me — you know, kind of good looking but not really my type but have this really good taste in choosing a project. Thanks to your podcast, maybe I will avoid the Kim Sam Soon series π
I’m looking forward to the next podcast I’ll listen to. Please don’t get tired of keeping us company on this K-drama addiction.

Oh that’s so fun that there were Hyun Bin posters everywhere! We don’t have anything like that where I live, though I did one buy some dumplings with Park Seo Joon’s face on them! That was exciting πΉ
And haha, I love that you used those finger hearts on your husband, that’s hilarious!! π»
I haven’t seen Memories of the Alhambra, I never seem to like any stories to do with video games for some reason, so I don’t think that one will be good for meπΉ I’ve heard lots of people say it is great though!
Thank you for your encouragement! I’ll keep making podcasts! π Thank you so much for listening!

Yep, Memories of the Alhambra may not be for you. It is 80% video games related and the foundation of the romance with him and Park Shin Hye was quite weak for me. But the plot was clever in terms of weaving real life and the augmented reality. Then, the post production work on the series were excellent, which I’m glad because of its relevance to the plot. Hollywood could be drooling watching this.
Anyway, I’ve already listened to the Itaewon Class episode of the podcast. I’ll post my review there. Sorry, I’m skipping podcasts. I’m prioritizing the series that I’ve watched before. Then, if my schedule allowed more binge-watching, I’ll probably go through the podcast in sequence π

Mmmh, yeah, I think maybe Memories of Alhambra may be one for me to miss because 80% video games doesn’t sound good for me π , although it does sound very clever and well put together! But I cannot help but be very driven by personal taste, I know my podcast is definitely not without bias, haha.
And yeah, I put up very spoiler filled waffles, so I totally get you going through with a focus on the shows you have watched, that makes it much more fun! π I really hope you enjoy listening!! π
